Our Mission

Y-Education helps students build deep understanding, by centering learning around a simple question:

Why?

Most students learn what to do in a subject long before they understand why it matters and why they need to learn it. That gap is expensive. It shows up as disengagement in the classroom and directionless choices before and after graduation. Y-Education exists to close that gap early and allow students to be in charge of their own goal-oriented learning.

Y-Advising

Y-Advising sessions are designed to put students in charge of their education, thinking deeply about their goals and the skills and knowledge they need to achieve them. Students practice setting life and career goals, come up with realistic plans for achieving those goals, and track their progress with their mentors. The length of each advising session is flexible and tailored to student needs.

Y-Seminar

Y-Seminars are designed to deliver deep understanding of core problems and answers in foundational fields such as statistics, philosophy, logic, linguistics, cognitive science, and machine learning. These courses focus on teaching the most foundational and essential skills and knowledge needed for success, as determined by professors doing research and teaching in these fields.
